![]() ![]() Switching to noiseless pickups really made my jazz experience a lot nicer, since I prefer the uneven settings that would otherwise be noisy, especially in my apartment. It's cool in settings where you don't want to blend, though, like if you're playing along with Bootsy's p-funk lines. I usually don't do the "two pickups at 100%" sound, since it feels like it doesn't blend with anything. Sometimes I do the bridge 100% and roll back the neck just a little if I want to sound a little more Rickenbacker-ish. Neck 100%, bridge rolled off just to the point that the tone changes and the mids come back. Series mode seems to be a bit more output than parallel (might just be my ears though, don't quote me on this), so peaking is sometimes an issue, even though my bass is passive. I'll vary the tone knob from song to song, and volume is usually 100% unless i'm peaking the amp or board, whatever i'm plugged into. It's essentially a P-bass pickup but the two halves reach across all strings, and have a huge gap between them. Yet it's also tighter and snappier than a standard p-sound because of that bridge pickup's position. ![]() A lot more body and midrange, it doesn't have that typical j-bass mid scoop. It sounds much more like a p-bass this way than when they're wired in parallel, which is the standard j wiring. The pickups are both on 100% all the time, but wired in series and passing through a single volume knob. 99% of the time i keep it in series mode, which bypasses the balancing issue. My passive j-bass has a switch to change between parallel wiring and series wiring. Similarly, please send any comments or critiques to the moderators.
